Were there any special difficulties? Did the construction of the Jewel offer new answers to historical/archaeological questions?

We definitely learned a lot along the way. The stern planking – at least the first 2 strakes – was particularly difficult. This may have been because we chose the battil shape, or because of our own inexperience with the shape, materials, and peculiarities of the sewing procedure. The sailing of the ship will provide some indication if we have succeeded in our recreation.
