The rope workers are artisans skilled and experienced in sewing boats, who were recruited from various boat-building yards in Kerala. Their names are listed on the website on "The Team" page.
The coir rope was the standard type used in boat construction, well retted in saltwater or brackish water. It was treated with coconut oil before use and fish oil after stitching was complete.
