Was the storm damage to the masts the only reason they needed replacing?
Yes, if you take a moment to look over the logs you will see that in the storm the masts were damaged by backwinding. In the olden days the sailors would have encountered similar problems and would have replaced parts of the ship along the way, this would include masts, sails and some re-stitching of the boat.
